STRATA Powers Ad Age Political Advertising Heat Map

Many political pundits and casual observers this year have been noting that this election cycle has been unique, unscripted, and impossible to predict. From our end, one thing remains constant: political campaigns and their supports will continue to spend advertising dollars in key swing states. But significant questions remain: How how much will they spend and where? 

To help make sense of what’s happening this year in political advertising, STRATA has teamed up with Advertising Age to create a heat map tracking the local TV advertising spend in the top markets of key swing states. 

We’ll be pulling together the ad orders placed by political advertising agencies to local TV stations processed by our software to see which markets are getting the most attention from political advertisers. (STRATA works with over 1,000 agencies, including those that are responsible for 75% of annual political ad spend.) We will be comparing the ad spend on a month-to-month basis as well as the monthly differences between this year and the last presidential election in 2012.  And our very own vice president Judd Rubin will weigh in on what all this means, using the knowledge he acquired in his past life as a political consultant.
